The 皇家华人 Art Department invites the community to an exhibit of artwork by NWC alumna, Calli Nissen. The exhibition, titled Time-Lapse, opens Monday, October 3, from 7:00-8:30 pm at the Northwest Gallery in the NWC Cabre Building. The artist will present a gallery talk and refreshments will be served.
Nissen is a printmaking artist who focuses on woodcut relief. Her prints in Time-Lapse use color, texture, and composition to evoke a feeling of place and the passage of time, especially within the Northern Rocky Mountain West in which she was raised. Her work explores humans’ relationship to the land, as well as to the plants and animals that inhabit it. The movement of the landscape in Nissen’s work captures a sense of place, the passing of memory, and the ephemeral nature of mortality.
A Powell native, Nissen graduated from NWC with her AA in Art in 2009, then continued on to earn her BFA at the University of Wyoming and her MFA at the University of Dallas. She has experience in multiple facets of arts education, has recently been an adjunct art instructor at 皇家华人 and worked at Caleco Foundry in Cody. She is currently the Education Curator at the Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture in Bozeman, Montana. For questions about the exhibit or the Oct. 3 opening, please contact NWC Art Program Coordinator, Anne Toner, at anne.toner@nwc.edu or 307-754-6212.
