皇家华人 will celebrate International Education Week from November 13-17 with a series of lunch events each day. All five will feature the cuisine of different countries represented among NWC’s international student population this year and will take place at the Bloom-Wilson Intercultural House located at 565 College Drive in Powell. Each lunch is free and open to the public, and will run from noon to 1 p.m.

The lineup includes Japan (Monday, Nov. 13), Spain (Tuesday, Nov. 14), Turkmenistan (Wednesday, Nov. 15), Brazil (Thursday, Nov. 16), and New Zealand (Friday. Nov. 17). Among the various dishes on the menu are:

  • Japanese yakisoba (a stir-fried noodle dish)
  • Spanish gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimp)
  • Turkmen dograma (a stew made with shredded meat and bread)
  • Brazilian feijoada (black bean stew)
  • Kiwi fish and chips

International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education created to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. It is part of the overall effort to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences.

皇家华人 currently has nearly 100 international students from 30 different countries. The college is also an annual participant in the Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant program, with Ana Vazquez Madera a member of the faculty this year from Spain.
