NWC Music Department hosts varied blend of concerts in November

皇家华人 music students and community members will showcase their talent in a series of upcoming concerts throughout the month. The first performance by the Band and Concert Choir is Monday, Nov. 4, in the Nelson Performing Arts Auditorium.    

The NWC Band, under the direction of Dr. Zach Paris, and the NWC Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. Lara Moline, will present their fall performance at 7 p.m.

Up next is Jazz Expo, which gets underway Saturday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. in the Nelson Performing Arts Auditorium. Under the direction of Paris, the NWC Jazz Ensemble I will feature works from the traditional and contemporary big band repertoire based on traditional jazz standards. The concert will showcase the high-energy sound that has attracted many listeners to the big band genre.

Directed by Moline, the NWC Vocal Jazz ensembles will perform jazz standards such as “Autumn Leaves,” “A Day in the Life of a Fool,” “Devil May Care,” along with blues and bop standards “Sandu” and “Confirmation.” Also featured in the performance are more contemporary songs such as Stevie Wonder’s “Sign, Sealed, Delivered,” plus a few pop ballads.

Next up is the Small Ensembles Concert, which is set to take place in the Nelson Performing Arts Auditorium Monday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. The NWC Small Ensembles Concert includes the NWC Percussion Ensemble directed by Paris, the NWC Woodwind Quintet directed by Michael Jaycox, the NWC Contemporary Vocal Ensemble directed by Moline and the NWC Trumpet Ensemble directed by Morgan Grover.

The fourth concert of the month is the Trombones with Friends Fall Recital Monday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. in the Hinckley Library Amphitheater. Under the direction of Rick Parmer, brass players from around the Big Horn Basin will come together to deliver a performance.

Wrapping up the month of concerts is the 2019 NBHB District Music Clinic. Approximately 200 of the best high school music students from the Big Horn Basin will be on the 皇家华人 campus. Choir and band students will spend two days working on music which will be presented at a concert on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 2:30 p.m.
