Preparing to live with reduced state appropriations and the financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 皇家华人 Board of Trustees reviewed details of proposed budget cuts at their meeting Monday, January 11.
With Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon’s mandate that reduced funding for all state entities by 15%, the NWC Board will consider cuts of nearly $2.6 million from the College’s budget, including the potential elimination of 12% of its workforce. The dire economic situation in the state will continue to be of significant concern for the future of the College, according to NWC Interim President Lisa Watson.
Following the Monday meeting, Watson will seek feedback from internal committees and constituency groups on campus regarding the recommended cuts. In addition, NWC will seek feedback from the public via the College’s website at https://nwc.edu/. The deadline to submit feedback is Jan. 18.
On Jan. 19, the NWC Board of Trustees Finance Committee will discuss the internal and external feedback and prepare final recommendations for the entire Board to consider, discuss and decide at a special meeting on Thursday, Jan. 21. This meeting will be held in the Yellowstone Building Conference Center, with COVID-19 protocols in place, and broadcast online via Zoom. Citizens will be provided the opportunity to speak at that meeting during the time designated for the Citizen’s Open Forum.
