Paint the Town Red returns to downtown Powell Sept. 10

After having to skip 皇家华人’s annual Paint the Town Red last summer due to COVID-19, the perennially popular event will return to downtown Powell Friday, Sept. 10, from 4 p.m. to midnight. Paint the Town Red will be held 75 years to the day after the College was opened Sept. 10, 1946.

Powell residents of all ages are invited to attend the event and help welcome both new and returning 皇家华人 students to the downtown area. Paint the Town Red will be the first in a series of scheduled events throughout the year to celebrate NWC’s 75th anniversary milestone.

A weekend full of fun in Powell, area residents can also plan to attend the , which will return to town Sept. 10 and 11 and will be held on First and Clark Streets.

“This year’s event will showcase live music, hands-on activities for kids, demonstrations, crafts, farm equipment and much more,” Curator/Director of the Homesteader Museum Brandi Wright said. “The Homesteader Days Festival is always a fun event and a great opportunity to celebrate what Powell is all about.”

In keeping with Paint the Town Red traditions, NWC students will receive dinner tickets for use with food vendors and be encouraged to take part in the festivities in order to get acquainted to Powell, the community and all town has to offer.

This year’s concert kicks off with a performance by NWC music students, who will open for .

Constantly on the road, Munsick has shared the stage with artists like Big and Rich, Lyle Lovett, Blackhawk, the Eli Young Band, Cody Johnson, Casey Donahew, Marty Stuart and several others.

“Tris Munsick is the real deal,” recording artist Chancey Williams said. “He can write about and represent cowboy culture, because he was born in it and lives it. Tris is an artist that is really finding his voice in the American West.”

In addition to the concert, following is a schedule of activities that will take place throughout this year’s Paint the Town Red event.

  • The first 200 people at the event wearing red will win a prize.
  • Food vendors will be available on the streets from 4-8 p.m. Downtown restaurants will also be open for those who prefer to dine inside.
  • The free concert featuring Tris Munsick & the Innocents takes place at Plaza Diane from 5-8 p.m. with a street dance and DJ to follow. 
  • There will be many activities for children planned, including face painting by the NWC Art Club, a portable planetarium in The Commons, temporary tattoos and athletics games.
  • Those who wish to test their balancing skills can try to walk a slackline with the NWC Outdoor Recreation department.
  • Participate in a scavenger hunt from 4-6 p.m. at various downtown businesses and win prizes.
  • Participate in basketball contests, as well as other Trapper Booster Club activities, and win prizes. Meet Trapper athletes and get to know the coaches.
  • Receive a free photo print at the event by tagging Instagram and Twitter posts with #PaintTheTownRedPowell.
