Prize winners have been announced in the Second Annual 皇家华人 Photography Contest and Exhibition, with selections made in high school, amateur, and professional divisions. A total of 238 entries were received before a selection committee chose which photographs would be on display in the exhibit. Award-winning photojournalist Mark Davis from the Powell Tribune served as juror for the contest.
The high school division saw 77 students from a total of eight schools in Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming submit their work. Categories included commercial (45 entries), human interest (36), nature (77), people (30), and sports (16). The top four among the 204 total entries were then recognized with awards on February 6.
High School Award Winners
- 1st place: 鈥淟oud Thoughts鈥, by Knoelle Ferguson (Capital HS in Helena, Montana)
- 2nd place: 鈥淐aterpillar鈥, by Livi Palmer (Montrose HS in Montrose, Colorado)
- 3rd place: 鈥淪kier鈥, by Eli Bunding (Bozeman HS in Bozeman, Montana)
- Honorable Mention: 鈥淔orest Buck鈥, by Henry Riendeau (Bozeman HS in Bozeman, MT)
In the amateur and professional divisions, a total of 34 images were entered by 12 photographers from Wyoming, Colorado, and Texas. To create continuity for the judging process, entrants were required to use common museum framing practices by utilizing black metal or black wood frames with white mats in two specific sizes. Cash prizes were awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

- 2nd place: 鈥淩udy Gold鈥, by Troy Powell, (Powell, Wyoming)
- 3rd place: 鈥淭uki-aonae Kai鈥 (Art of Fire Dancing), by Shane Epping (Fort Collins, Colorado)
- Honorable Mention: 鈥淯p and Away Baldy鈥, by Troy Powell (Powell, Wyoming)
The exhibition featuring more than 40 photographs will remain on display through March 22 in SinClair Gallery inside the Orendorff building on the NWC campus.
